About the Designer / Thomas Jenkins

‘Quality over fashion’. That’s how the British (and now Oslo-based) designer Thomas Jenkins describes his vision for design. Jenkins is trained as an engineering designer but got frustrated with the lack of connection to the end user and decided to move into the universe of furniture and product design instead. And at Skagerak, simplicity has become a key element to him. As he strives to come up with new objects that people can live with over a very long time, finding the right balance in a design is vital. It needs to have enough presence that you grow attached to it, but not too much that you lose interest over time.

Proper usage and maintenance

--

Proper usage and maintenance is vital for getting the most out of the valuable resources we have. Our designs are made to last for generations, but just like everything else, they need a little care to get there.

Oil Treated Oak

--

Origin
Oak with the botanical name Quercus spp. grows in most temperate zones. Skagerak oak comes from European forests.

Why
Oak is a sturdy and hardwearing type of wood. Furthermore, the Skagerak oak is FSC 100 % certified or FSC Mix certified. The selection of the wood is extremely careful and all processing is done by hand, so that only the best and most durable pieces of wood are used in production. Oak contains tannins which reduces bacterial growth in the wood.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Your new product comes with an oil treatment. For daily cleaning, use a damp cloth. Spills are to be removed immediately to minimize risk of spots. The product is treated with an oil treatment that treats and seals the surface to make the best possible protection along with the valued aesthetical qualities of an oil treatment. Be sure to wipe over with a dry cloth after cleaning and leave no water to dry on the oiled surface.

Brass

--

Why
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, popular for its superb malleability, hardness, corrosion resistance and attractive appearance.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Brass will tarnish over time, especially if it is not kept dry. Find a suitable brass polish and clean the brass carefully without staining other materials.

Note
Since brass can be quite susceptible to tarnish, small spots might already have occurred on the product when unpacking. These can easily be polished off.
