TIL NEXT TIME x NORDEN

Los Angeles based ceramicist Silver DeStouet of Til Next Time creates handmade pieces that combine bold colors with the texture and character made by hand. We first discovered her work through a series of videos featuring a recurring star inspired by The Story So Far and immediately wanted to do something special together.

After reaching out, the idea came to make a collaborative candle collection. This collection brings together a shared passion for pottery, music and scent.

We also caught up with her for an interview.

What’s the inspiration behind Til Next Time?

When I first started making ceramics, I was posting my progress on Tiktok and I found myself writing “til next time” at the end of every video.  Once I started growing I realized I needed a name for my brand and I thought of Til Next Time right away. It just fits everything about ceramics so well. Whether it’s using your favorite mug or sitting down on the wheel, there’s always a next time. 

You have a passion for music. Music is a big part of what inspires us here. How does it carry over to you and your business?

Music and ceramics both bring me so much joy, and I feel deeply connected to both.
Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is how so many musicians I love have written lyrics about insecurity and self-doubt in their pursuit of success. Sometimes I think... if those artists had called it quits early on, they never would have reached the incredible place they’re in now.

I find myself comparing my work to other ceramic artists, wondering if there’s space for me, wanting to try new things but not knowing how they'll be received. I’ve realized that feeling unsure of yourself is such a universal part of creating. No matter what kind of art you make.

There’s something comforting about knowing that the artists I listen to while making my pieces have felt the same doubts I do. But they kept going. And that inspires me to keep going, too.

What else inspires you creatively?

I’m really drawn to color combinations. I’ll notice the colors in someone’s outfit or the paint on old apartments and houses in my neighborhood. Some buildings have these beautiful earth tones in their paint and architecture. Lots of little things catch my eye all the time and I’ll  think, Whoa, I love those colors together. I should make a cup that looks like that.

What’s ahead for Til Next Time?

I’ve been really wanting to explore hand-building and throwing larger pieces. I’m excited to experiment with that this year and take more classes to continue growing and learning as a ceramic artist.

This week I’ve been listening to a lot of Blessing Jolie, Jack Kays, and the new Charli XCX album.
